Students with Awards

At the Board of Education meeting on Wednesday, November 13th, Dr. Skaggs, the Board, and Mrs. Galloway presented two well-deserved staff members with the Golden Apple Awards.

Beth Kain

Beth has been an outstanding district-wide employee, and her commitment to our school community.

Beth has recently taken on the responsibility of overseeing our food service program in addition to her role as a beloved cafeteria staff member at St. Clairsville Elementary. She is not only efficient and dedicated in her role but also incredibly personable, building meaningful relationships with both students and their families. She goes above and beyond by personally reaching out to families and making phone calls to ensure they are informed about the benefits of completing free/reduced lunch applications. Her advocacy in this area has made a tangible difference for many of our students.

Furthermore, Beth has been instrumental in supporting our breakfast program and has introduced new, healthier food options that benefit the well-being of our students. Her commitment to both the nutritional and personal needs of our students is truly remarkable, and her impact reaches across the district.

For these reasons, I believe Beth exemplifies the qualities and dedication of the Golden Apple Award, and I wholeheartedly recommend Beth for this honor. -- Principal, Mrs. Galloway

Josh Shutler

I am writing to nominate Mr. Shutler, one of our second-grade teachers, for the Golden Apple Award. His actions during a recent medical emergency involving one of our substitute teachers truly exemplify his dedication and leadership.

When the emergency occurred, Mr. Shutler responded swiftly by calling for our school nurse and providing calm reassurance to the students in the classroom. He took immediate action to ensure the well-being of both the students and the substitute teacher. Additionally, he seamlessly transitioned into teaching Mrs. Duncan’s class, keeping the students in a stable and supportive environment for the remainder of the day.

Mr. Shutler also went above and beyond in his role as a team leader by communicating with the teacher who was absent to keep her informed, and he coordinated with Mrs. Duncan so she could notify families about the situation.

Mr. Shutler's quick thinking, calm demeanor, and commitment to both the students and his colleagues make him an exemplary candidate for this award. His leadership and care during such a challenging situation reflect the values of our school and the mission we uphold.

I wholeheartedly recommend Mr. Shutler for the Golden Apple Award. --Principal, Mrs. Galloway
